Hello From the Inside

We’re in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, and the mayor of LA has just issued a ‘Safer at Home’ emergency order. My work has been put on pause… and with ample time on my idle hands, I figured if my knowledge of how to stay in and do nothing can be of public service, I may as well make myself useful.

Here are some things to make self-quarantined social isolation a little more pleasant. Almost all support small brands, and some are on sale.

Since we’re all washing our hands a ton, it’d be nice to use a beautiful soap.

This cashmere hoodie (on sale) is exactly what I want to wear right now, at home, but I would also definitely wear it out...in like a month I guess?

I read a LOT. This book is next on my list, though I’m working on a whole list of book recommendations. You can also follow what I’m reading on Goodreads.

Just when I thought the ENTIRE WORLD was sold out of hand sanitizer, I saw that natural perfume company Sigil Scent is selling a version that’s beautifully packaged and includes the choice to donate to the LA LGBTQ Center’s Food Pantry with your purchase.

There’s no time like the present to sit around with a face mask. The Problem Solver by May Lindstrom is what I’m enjoying now.

Since I’m constantly washing my hands these days, I’m also constantly applying hand lotion. The ones by Grown Alchemist and OSEA are my favorite.

If you’re lucky enough to have a bathtub, this seems like the perfect time to take a bath. These Hinoki bath flakes are on sale and would make it all the more luxurious.

I already watch a lot of TV, but staying home all day has put my series consumption into overdrive. When I got tired of old Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm, I asked friends what shows they recommended and got High Fidelity. I’m enjoying the show so far — but I’m OBSESSING over Zoe Kravitz’s style, especially her vintage t-shirts with cinched high waisted jeans and her leather blazer (this one was already on my wish list, and it’s on sale with code STAYHOME).

Nagnata makes my favorite active wear, to wear being active or not. Without my normal pilates classes, my body can get super tight and stiff — all I want to do is stretch and use this fantastic massage gun aka my new favorite thing. I’m also trying to do more of Lo Roxburgh’s gentle alignment exercises.

I like to make my space a little more serene, especially in the evenings, with candles, my diffuser (on sale) or incense. Check out Bodha, Rituals Incense, and United Other.

I don’t usually let myself do puzzles because I get too obsessed with finishing them and just won’t do anything else. Luckily that’s fine now! A friend and I ordered this one to do remotely ‘together’. Piecework makes beautiful puzzles, too.

After an influx of emails from brands I follow telling me how they’re shutting their brick-and-mortar doors for the time being, there came another influx of emails telling me about all the sales they’re having. For example, Rachel Comey’s famous Mars boots are on sale for 30% off with the code MARS30.
